Access: By float plane only, 31 air miles (50 km) from Wrangell.
Terrain: Moderate to steep; Sitka spruce, western hemlock, some cedar forest; muskeg common in area.
Facilities:
  • 2 single plywood bunks
  • 2 double plywood bunks
  • Wooden table and benches
  • Oil stove (#1 stove only, not provided)
  • Broom
  • Outhouse toilet
  • Skiff and oars (user must provide PFD; secure skiff before leaving)
Water is available from the lake and stream next to the cabin. Treat all water before using.
What to bring: #1 fuel oil, personal flotation devices for all boaters, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cooking stove, lantern, pots, pans, plates, utensils, food, toilet paper, garbage bags, fire extinguisher and fire starter. It's a good idea to bring your own water.
More information:  No developed access from cabin to Wildlife Observatory. Trail shown on topographic maps from Anan Lake cabin to shore is unmaintained and unusable. Trail passes through area closed to public June 15 - September 15. Occasionally poor weather can result in extended stays; cabin users should be prepared for this.
Special features: Cutthroat trout (May - Sept.), silver salmon (Aug - Sept.) in Anan Lake; steelhead (April - May), pink salmon (July - August) in Anan Creek
