Island within South Baranof Wilderness Area.

| Access: |
40-minute float plane flight from Sitka, then along 100-foot
(30-m) narrow path through thickets of shoulder height shrubs
and berry bushes.

Cabin lies near northern end of narrow, 4-mile- (6.4-km)
long Plotnikof Lake at elevation 275 feet (85 m) at edge
of old-growth stand of large spruce and hemlock, surrounded
by thick brush. |

Water available from lake or nearby inlet stream. Treat
all water before using. |
| What to bring: |
#1 diesel fuel (10 gallons for a 3-day stay), personal
flotation devices (pfd), sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cooking
stove, lantern, pots, pans, plates, utensils, food, toilet
paper, garbage bags, fire extinguisher, fire starter, rubber
boots. It's a good idea to bring your own water. |
| More information: |
Lake generally ice-free (suitable for landing float plane)
from mid-June to October. Poor weather conditions can arise
quickly and may delay flight arrivals and departures.
Firewood is not provided for outdoor campfires.
DO NOT leave any food when vacating cabin. Pack out what
you bring in.
Square-bowed skiff (rowboat) provided is small but heavy.
Uses long-shaft 2-10 hp outboard motor (not
provided). Each person in skiff should have Coast Guard
approved pfd. Be sure plug is in before launching boat.
Please tie skiff well up on shore and pull plug before
leaving, so boat does not fill with rain water. |
| Special features: |
Wilderness solitude and beauty. Magnificent view of steep
granite slopes rising to snow-capped ridges, with abundant
cascading waterfalls.
1.2 mile (2 km) Davidof Lake trail begins behind cabin,
ending at outlet stream of Davidof Lake. Not maintained
and difficult to find.
Fair rainbow trout fishing in Plotnikof Lake and inlet
stream on north shore. Steelhead runs mid-May to early
June in outlet stream on south shore, coho salmon from
late August through September.
Brown
