| Access: |
Helicopter to beach at lower tides or by 45-minute boat
ride from Sitka to Mud Bay on east coast of Kruzof Island
and 7½-mile (12-km) hike or ATV ride across island.
Take old logging road about 6 miles (9.6 km) to T in
road at Iris Meadows. Turn right about 1/8 mile (.2 km),
then turn left on road that crosses meadows. After crossing
Iris Creek, continue along road about 1 mile (1.6 km)
to ATV trail which turns left and continues about ¼
mile (.4 km) to cabin. (First-time users should contact
Sitka Ranger District (907-747-6671) for crucial, detailed
information on reaching cabin by trail.)

Water is available from creek at crossing about 1/3 mile(½

Sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cooking stove, lantern,
pots, pans, plates, utensils, food, toilet paper, garbage
bags, fire extinguisher, fire starter and rubber boots.
It's a good idea to bring your own water. |

Cabin users can expect noise from ATV riders on beach
in front of cabin.
Stove burns #1 oil, generally 10 gallons for a 3-day stay; this can be more or less depending on time of year.
Firewood is not provided for outdoor campfires.

Uniquely ATV-accessible. About 36 miles (58 km) of old
logging roads available for hiking or ATV or mountain bike
riding. Excellent beachcombing on sandy beaches, hiking,
photography. Spectacular view of cresting waves on outside
coast.
Brown
bear and deer common.
Fair stream fishing for Dolly varden, coho and pink salmon.
Cabin built in 1993 by volunteers from U.S. Coast Guard
Air Station in Sitka and by local volunteers. |
