Rental fee: $35 per night
Season of use: May through October
Description: 16'x16' A-frame cabin with sleeping loft reached by vertical ladder
Location: 60 miles (100 km) (50-minute flight) northwest of Sitka on western edge of Chichagof Island, within West Chichagof-Yakobi Wilderness Area.
Longitude:
-136.1527778

Latitude:
57.81861111

Suggested USGS topo map:
Sitka D-7
Access: 50 minutes by float plane from Sitka.
Terrain: Flat, lightly wooded area. Surrounding terrain varies from open muskegs to densely forested steep slopes. A topographic map of this area is a must for exploration of nearby lakes and high alpine meadows.
Facilities:
  • 1 double plywood bunk
  • Sleeping loft
  • Table and benches
  • Wood stove
  • Cooking counter
  • Cupboard
  • Outdoor screened cooler box
  • Broom
  • Outhouse toilet
  • Axe or splitting maul
  • Skiff and oars (motor and personal flotation devices not included)
Water available from nearby stream or from lake. Treat all water before using.
What to bring: Personal flotation devices (pfd), sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cooking stove, lantern, pots, pans, plates, utensils, food, toilet paper, garbage bags, fire extinguisher and fire starter, rain gear and rubber boots. It's a good idea to bring your own water.
More information: Poor weather conditions can arise quickly and may delay flight arrivals and departures.

Firewood may be in short supply at any time of the year, although it is generally provided.

DO NOT leave food behind when vacating this cabin. Pack out all gear that you bring.

Porvided square-bowed skiff (rowboat) is small but heavy. Uses long-shaft 2-10 hp outboard motor (not provided). Each person in skiff should have Coast Guard approved pfd. Be sure plug is in before launching boat. Please tie skiff well up on shore and pull plug before leaving so boat does not fill with rain water.

Special features: Great photography opportunities. Otter Lake and Goulding Lake (to the east) are connected. Skiff at cabin can maneuver between the two lakes, but it does take patience. Fishing slow in this area. Cutthroat trout fishing all year below falls and in lower lake (west of cabin). Steelhead and coho run from Goulding Harbor into Goulding Lakes system. Boat at cabin cannot access lakes to the west of cabin. Brown bear frequent the area.
