Description: Modified A-frame
Location: 15 air miles (24 km), 40 water miles (64 km) from Petersburg on east side of Duncan Canal Salt Chuck on northern Kupreanof Island.

Access: Float plane or boat from Petersburg or Wrangell. 14' tide needed to reach cabin; rapids south of the Salt Chuck navigable only at high slack tide. 
Terrain: Flat, wooded land around cabin.

Water is available from a small stream near the cabin. Treat all water before using.
What to bring: Fuel for the oil heater (#1 stove oil or kerosene only), personal flotation devices, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cooking stove, lantern, pots, pans, plates, utensils, food, toilet paper, garbage bags, fire extinguisher and fire starter. It's a good idea to bring your own water.
More information: Fishing for Steelhead trout, Coho salmon; hunting for bear, grouse, waterfowl. Portage Mountain Loop Trail, which links Salt Chuck East to Portage Bay and Petersburg Lake Cabins, passes behind the cabin. (See Petersburg Ranger District Hiking Trails guide).
