Location: 20 air miles (32 km) from Petersburg at the west end of DeBoer Lake (elev. 1420' or 433 m), 3 miles (5 km) NW of Thomas Bay

Access: Float plane.  Note: Fog and high winds can prevent scheduled flights for pickups, sometimes for several days.
Please check weather forecast prior to departure, and carry extra food.
Terrain: Steep, mountainous. Cabin in alpine valley at edge of Deboer Lake, surrounded by mountains on three sides.

  • Oil heater
  • Pit-type outhouse
  • Rowboat with oars, NO lifejackets
Water is available from the lake. Treat all water before using.
What to bring: Fuel for the oil heater (#1 stove oil or kerosene only), sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cooking stove, lantern, pots, pans, plates, utensils, food, toilet paper, garbage bags, fire extinguisher and fire starter. It's a good idea to bring your own water.
More information: Hike and climb to peaks and ridges of chain of mountains including Jefferson, Fulton, Hancock and Hamilton. No trails in area; intermediate hikers will find surrounding peaks good day and multi-day trips. Excellent climbing, wildlife viewing, photography. Mountain goats and ptarmigan. Numerous species of wildflowers. Rainbow trout in lake.
Special features: DeBoer is one of only two cabins in district located in high mountain environment. Spectacular scenery.
