Description: A-frame cabin modified with an extended roof and an upright wall to form a bump-out.
Location: 16 air miles (25 km) or 30 water miles (48 km) from Petersburg at mouth of Castle River on west side of Duncan Canal on Kupreanof Island.

Access:  Boat or float plane from Petersburg or Wrangell. 16' tide needed for direct access to cabin; otherwise, use Castle River Trail which begins at Castle Flats Cabin.
Terrain: Predominantly flat to rolling. Muskeg and old growth forest.
Facilities:

  • Pit-type outhouse
  • Woodshed
  • Woodstove
Water is available from the river or nearby streams. Treat all water before using.
What to bring: Sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cooking stove, lantern, pots, pans, plates, utensils, food, toilet paper, garbage bags, fire extinguisher and fire starter. It's a good idea to bring your own water.
More information: Exceptional steelhead, coho, trout fishing. Excellent bear, waterfowl, grouse hunting.
Special features: Castle River Trail is well developed and an easy ½ mile walk from flats. Small rowboat located ½ mile upstream from cabin at the trail’s terminus.
