Location: 16 air miles (25 km) or 30 water miles (48 km) from Petersburg on the edge of the mud flats of Castle River, on the west side of Duncan Canal on Kupreanof Island

Access:  By boat or plane from Petersburg or Wrangell. 15' tide needed to cross mud flats.
Terrain: Predominantly flat; old growth forest, muskeg and riparian.

Water is available from a small stream west of the cabin. Treat all water before using.
What to bring: Fuel for the oil heater (#1 stove oil or kerosene only), personal flotation devices, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cooking stove, lantern, pots, pans, plates, utensils, food, toilet paper, garbage bags, fire extinguisher and fire starter. It's a good idea to bring your own water.
More information: Castle River Trail is an easy hike through forest and muskeg. Short spur trail ½ mile upriver to Castle River Cabin.

Excellent steelhead and coho salmon fishing. Waterfowl, grouse and bear hunting.

Special features: This type of stove (Perfection oil heater model H940) is used for heating purposes only and burns #1 heating oil. It has a brown enamel finish and a slightly domed top.
