Description: 15' x 12' log chalet style cabin with a deck
Location: 13 miles northwest of Juneau near Auke Bay. Trail head is at 12.3 Mile Glacier Highway.

Access: By hiking, cross-country skiing, or snowshoeing over 3-mile partially planked Auke Ne Trail through muskeg, with 1500-foot elevation gain.
Terrain: Cabin is located in a sub alpine meadow 1550 feet above the Mendenhall Valley.

Water available from nearby stream. Treat all water before using.
What to bring: Sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cooking stove, lantern, pots, pans, plates, utensils, food, toilet paper, garbage bags, fire extinguisher and fire starter. It's a good idea to bring your own water or treat all water before using.
More information: Closest water in summer is Auk Nu Creek, 3/8 mile down the trail. Treat all water before using. Wood is not provided, so you must bring your own if you wish to use the stove. Cabin is heated by a propane wall furnace. Propane is supplied.

Bears frequent area.

Special features: Cross-country skiing is excellent in winter, with close access to Spaulding Meadows and an undeveloped trail to Peterson Lake Cabin (map and compass are recommended). Skis or snowshoes are recommended in winter. Great views of Juneau, Chilkat Mountains, Admiralty Island and numerous ice field peaks. NOTE: Cabin is open to the public a warming shelter from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
