Cabins

Some of our most popular recreation facilities are the public recreation cabins. Reservations are required and rental fees run from $25 to $45 a night per cabin. Check out the cabin listings or maps on this site or contact any of our offices for further details and make your choice. Then call the National Recreation Reservation System toll-free at 1-877-444-6777 or go online at recreation.gov to make your reservation.

Our cabins are rustic - they are a true Alaskan experience! Facilities you can expect include: plywood bunks and loft floors (in A-frame cabins), wood or oil stoves for heat, cooking counter and table, shelves and cupboard space, and an outhouse toilet. Bring your own sleeping bags, pads, cookstove, pots, pans, plates, utensils, light source (lantern), toilet paper, garbage bags and fire starter. If the cabin you are planning to use has an oil stove, plan on bringing your own stove oil (oil use varies from 5 to 10 or more gallons per week depending on the cabin size and the weather). Be sure to check whether the oil stove takes No. 1 or No. 2 fuel oil.

Anywhere except in the Petersburg-Wrangell area, if a mooring buoy is provided for your boat, you do not have exclusive use of the buoy. Policy on some buoys is first-come/first-serve; however, use by more than one vessel is permitted, provided the first party there agrees. In the Petersburg-Wrangell area, mooring buoys and floats provided at recreation cabins are for cabin permittees only.

Campgrounds

The Tongass also offers a number of camping experiences, ranging from a place to pitch your pup tent in the middle of nowhere to developed campgrounds along the road systems. Some campgrounds charge a fee for camping.
