Adaptive Management & Monitoring
Regions 1 and 4, Rocky Mountain Research Station (RMRS)
FY01 Progress Report and FY02 Plans- October 1, 2001
Project Category: Watershed Soils and Riparian
Project Title: Synthesis of knowledge on fire and fire related management in aquatic ecosystems.
Project Leader: Bruce Rieman
Participating Research Contacts: C. Luce, R. Gresswell, G. Reeves, P. Bisson, J. Clayton.
Participating Forest Contacts: R. Stowell
Total Project Cost and Timeframe:
2001: $0 spent Carryover:
2002: $76,500
2003-2005:
Progress in 2001: Work in 2001 focused on the development of a workshop content, contacts with key participants, and contracting for facilities. Some discussion has been initiated on format for technology transfer and publication of the workshop results. All planning and coordination was accomplished without financial support for the project. Eighteen presenters or key participants have been confirmed forming the body of the scientific presentations. The current outline of the workshop is attached below.
Plans for 2002: Work is continuing to confirm two more technical presentations and to identify other key participants that will be invited to participate in the discussion and the synthesis. We anticipate holding the workshop to about 50 participants to ensure a productive discussion. The particular needs are to confirm all participants, establish contracting and payment procedures for funded NGO participants, confirm the publication format, and obtain the draft manuscripts for all presentations. Following the workshop efforts will focus on development of the final document and materials for dissemination.
Products and/or Technology Transfer Plans 2002:
A preliminary synthesis based on abstracts and a transcript of the workshop in an electronic format, a formal web page providing access to the electronic documents and other materials generated from the workshop.
