Adaptive Fire Management Projects Technology Transfer

Adaptive Management and Monitoring
Regions 1 and 4 – Rocky Mountain Research Station (RMRS)
FY 01 Progress Report and FY 02 Plans

Project Category:   Watershed, Soils, and Riparian

Project Title:   R1/R4 Adaptive Fire Management Projects Technology Transfer

Project Leader:   Kerry Overton

Research Contacts:   All R1/R4 Adaptive Fire Management Researchers

Participating Forests/Grassland Contacts:   All R1/R4 Adaptive Fire Management Forest Participants

Funds:   Total Project Cost and Timeframe (1-5 years):

2002: $20,000
2003-2005: $20,000/year

Progress in 2001:   A draft Technology Transfer Plan has been developed and initial review completed by the R1/R4/RMRS Technology Transfer Bunch and science team leaders for the Soil/Water and Fisheries Research Work Units at the Boise RMRS Aquatic Sciences Lab. The second draft is being formulated and will be passed on to the project and regional contacts for review. The primary parts of the plan consist of:

  1. the refinement of management questions
  2. questions linked to the planned project outputs (e.g. background scientific information, generated databases and spatial layers, results to date)
  3. development of a web page for easy access to available information
  4. planning for future workshops, presentations, and publications as information becomes available

Plans for 2002:   Develop a standard format for all R1/R4 Adaptive Fire Management Participants to display project status, locations, currently generated scientific background literature, databases, and data layers. Start the development of a web page to display the above information. Develop an NFS steering group to refine questions and assist in linkage to products being developed by the projects.

Products and/or tech transfer expected in 2002:   Web page with current project status and available information as described above.
