Adaptive Management and Monitoring Project Category: (Watershed, Soils, and Riparian; Invasive Weeds, Social, or Native Seed Application and Effectiveness) "Overall" category Project Title: Patterns of plant, bird, amphibian, and small mammal occurrence in salvage-logged and unsalvaged burned conifer forests in the Bitterroot Valley, Montana Project Leaders: Drs. Paul Alaback, Kerry Foresman, and Richard Hutto Participating Research Contacts: Les Marcum (UMT coordinator) Participating Forests/Grassland Contacts: Sue Heald (Bitterroot NF) Funds: Total Project Cost and Timeframe (1-5 years): $273,383 2.66 years This budget reflects the CESU Agreement indirect cost rate of 15 percent TDC. However, depending upon the vehicle used to fund this project, that rate could change which would, of course, change the bottom line. Progress in 2001: We have worked on completing a proposal for the study, and we have reviewed data for selecting study sites. There is, as yet, no completed contract between the U.S. Forest Service and the University of Montana for this project, but hopefully that will be resolved soon. Plans for 2002: Project leaders will select graduate students and complete the first season of fieldwork by collecting data on the chosen study sites. Products and/or tech transfer expected in 2002: A progress report will be completed.
