Regions 1 and 4, Rocky Mountain Research Station (RMRS)
FY01 Progress Report and FY02 Plans- October 1, 2001

Project Category:   Watershed, Soils, and Riparian; Invasive Weeds, Social, or Native Seed Application and Effectiveness

Project Leader:   Alan Barta

Participating Research Contacts:   Sue Cannon, USGS.

Funds:   Total Project Cost and Timeframe (1-5 years):

2001: $53,000
      Carryover: $31,543
2002: $60,000 + FY2001 Carryover
2003-2005: $18,000

Progress in 2001:   Funds were released to project in late July 2001. This was too late to begin fieldwork in FY2001. Because of end of the FY constraints (purchasing deadline 08/15/2001) and carryover uncertainty, effort was focused on purchasing equipment and supplies with the FY2001 dollars. All items arrived promptly with the exception of items from the FS IBM computer contract that have still not arrived. Meetings with research collaborators occurred, as did the selection of the software package for risk assessment modeling. Efforts are under way to keep the project on schedule and we expect to be successful.

Plans for 2002:   We plan to continue collaborating with other researchers and seek input from R1 and R4 forests. We will conduct workshop for expert parameterization of belief networks and hopefully pilot BAER decision support tools in conjunction with a BAER team in R1 or R4.

Products and/or tech transfer expected in 2002:   Prototypes and piloting with R1/R4 forests.
