Ranchers and Farmers Benefit from the National Fire Plan Fence Program
Over 250 ranchers and farmers in Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Nevada, and Utah lost fences due to the fires of 2000.

Over the past two years the Northern (R1) and the Intermountain Region (R4) have worked hard to implement the National Fire Plan (NFP). In August of 2001 the Secretaries of Agriculture and the Interior joined the Western Governors' Association, National Association of State Foresters, National Association of Counties, and the Intertribal Timber Council to endorse A Collaborative Approach for Reducing Wildland Fire Risks to Communities and the Environment: 10-Year Comprehensive Strategy. Then in May of 2002 the Implementation Plan section of the Collaborative Approach for Reducing Wildland Fire Risks to Communities and the Environment: 10-Year Comprehensive Strategy was signed in Idaho City, Idaho.

All of the National Forests and Grasslands in both Regions are working hard to improve the forests and grasslands through implementation of the "Collaborative Approach for Reducing Wildland Fire Risks to Communities and the Environment: 10-Year Comprehensive Strategy." Here are just a few of the successful projects and activities being carried out under the Healthy Forest Initiative-National Fire Plan.
