Missouri River Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) Information
Background
Resource Advisory Committees (RACs) are organized under
the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self Determination Act of 2000.
Funding and administration for RAC's are provided under the authority of the reauthorized Act of 2008. RACs recommend projects that benefit federal lands in particular counties, using federal funds allocated to the counties under this law.
The Missouri River RAC operates in Lewis & Clark and Broadwater counties. Previously, this RAC was specific to Lewis & Clark County, but recently renamed the committee when it expanded to include Broadwater County.
Two RACs cover the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest.
One, the Tri-County RAC, operates in Powell, Granite, and Deer Lodge
counties and covers parts of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge, Helena, and Lolo
National Forests located in those counties.
The other RAC is the Madison-Beaverhead RAC, covering
Beaverhead-Deerlodge and Gallatin National Forests in Beaverhead and
Madison counties.
Each committee has 15 members, appointed by the Secretary
of Agriculture for three-year terms.
