Road Ending: 4663 feet elevation (1421. M). The road ends at the junction of State Highway 279 and Stemple Pass #689 at Wilborn.
access: Stemple Pass Road #689 departs Lincoln south of State Highway 200.
ATTRACTIONS AND CONSIDERATIONS: Stemple Pass Road #689 is a two-lane dirt road. Although this road intersects higher elevations (Stemple Pass is 6376 feet elevation) it is passable even during the heavy snow months of winter, because it is a mail route and therefore plowed frequently. The route traverses Lodgepole pine forests and some open hillsides. A short scenic side trip might be considered from Stemple Pass; follow forest route # 485 for photogenic views of the lower drainage. There are many private residences and patented mining claims along the route. Upon encountering State Highway 279 one may proceed south to Helena or north over Flesher Pass to Lincoln.
