South Belts Travel Plan Decision Notice and Finding of No Significant Impact

The Forest Supervisor for the Helena National Forest (HNF) has signed a decision notice and finding of no significant impacts (DN/FONSI) for the South Belts Travel Plan. The decision follows release of the environmental assessment (EA) in November 2007 and public comments received on the EA. The decision results in a designation of what routes are open and closed to motorized uses as required by the 2005 Travel Rule. After careful consideration, Forest Supervisor, Kevin Riordan has selected Alternative 2, with one modification. Implementation of this decision will provide opportunity for motorized use by opening some previously closed routes while also addressing resource needs by closing some existing motorized roads and trails.
