Projects & Plans

Grassy Mountain Fuels and Vegetation Treatment Project (Hay Peggy Project)

The Grassy Mountain Fuels and Vegetation Treatment Project area covers approximately 8,000 acres and is about 20 miles east of Townsend, Montana. The purpose of the project is to promote a fire-dependent ecosystem that is resistant to high-intensity wildfire and to maintain a diversity of other species including sagebrush, grasslands, and aspen. The proposal emphasizes reduction of fuels around the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) and throughout the project area, maintenance and enhancement of sagebrush-grassland communities, promotion of aspen stand vigor and distribution, and an increase in native plant species diversity.

There are 2 maps. One displays the vicinity of the project and the other displays the proposed action – including units. There are also descriptions and photos of the units.
