Fire & AviationIHC - Interagency Hotshot CrewThe Helena Ranger District has been providing an organized, professional, 20-person Wildland Fire Crew since 1971.
What we do: There are over 80 IHC crews in the United States. These crews are made up of young men and women who are available during fire season to go anywhere in the United States and sometimes Canada at a moments notice. They provide fire suppression forces in some of the most rugged terrain North America has to offer. Theses crews do not jump out of airplanes but are either flown into remote locations by helicopter or simply hike in with all the gear they need to fight fire and survive in the Forest.
Organization: Superintendent - Fred Thompson Crew members - 12 temporary firefighters
The full crew works from early May thru early October
Hiring: Hiring is completed by the end of February
The Helena Hotshots seek to fill crew positions during the months of January and February . The fire season for the Helena IHC begins early-May and extends to the middle of October. Crew members must be able to commit themselves to this full time period. This is not a job to be taken lightly. It demands nothing but the best a person has to offer. We are a team and rely on every member to have a positive attitude and a dedication to the work we do.
