Abstract:

Administrative Forest Boundary - A feature class depicting the boundary encompassing all the National Forest System (NFS) lands administered by the Administrative Unit. The boundary encompasses private lands, other governmental agency lands, and may contain NFS lands within the proclaimed boundaries of another Administrative Unit. All NFS lands fall within one, and only one, Administrative National Forest Boundary.

Purpose:

This Geodatabase is intended for read-only use. The Lands data will still be maintained in the current ALP model structure using the existing ALP maintenance applications. The Regional data stewards will need to re-translate to the Geodatabase as they update data in the ALP coverages and Oracle tables.

The Regional Land Status personnel are responsible for their local data stewardship and maintenance. The overall collection nationwide consists of 100% attribute accuracy based on currency and completeness.

Logical_Consistency_Report:

Topology was created using ESRI Arc/Info software and checked for gaps, slivers, intersect errors and invalid dangling nodes. Data was confirmed complete. Standard collection procedures included edgematching between township coverage tiles. Any errors were corrected using USDA Forest Service standards and guidelines for Quality Control (QC). Regional datasets followed the Washington Office standards and processes. The data was collected following FGDC standards.

Positional accuracy may vary throughout the dataset. The location of PLSS and Metes & Bound corners have been derived from survey information both recorded by the BLM and the Forest Service, and then geodetically corrected using a least squares algorithm. Any survey information that has been added to the dataset uses these corners as control, and has been adjusted to these corners. All processing of the original data was done with a fuzzy tolerance of .01 meters or less.

Data were created from multiple sources including BLM Geographic Coordinate Database (GCDB) ascii files (preferred source), FS Cartographic Feature Files (CFF), digitized features from 1:24000 FS Status and Encumbrance maps (rms < .003), and other sources such as COGO. In PLSS areas, data were originally created as individual township map extent coverages and then appended. Various tools (and amls) were used to validate data integrity including labelerrors, nodeerrors, edgematch and others. Data are currently maintained in a coverage format.
