CABIN PERMITS

Forest Service cabins are available to the public for rent. A cabin permit is required.

    GALLATIN COUNTY BURN PERMITS

    $15.00

    Restrictions

  • Open burning may be conducted between March 1 & November 30.
  • Burning may be subject to restrictions during high fire danger

    Available for purchase at Bozeman and Hebgen Lake Ranger Districts
    Park County Burn Permits/Sweetgrass County Burn Permits
    Available at local sheriff's departments in Livingston and Big Timber





    PERSONAL USE FIREWOOD PERMITS

    $6.25 / cord

    Restrictions

  • 4 cord minimum, 12 cord maximum
  • Dead down trees and logs as well as standing dead trees unless reserved from cutting
  • 6 foot maximum length
  • Additional Information

    Permit season runs from April 1 to March 31. Permits for cutting firewood are available for purchase at all Gallatin Forest ranger district offices. Firewood permits will also be available at these local businesses: Owenhouse Ace Hardware (bicycle shop) in Bozeman , Lee & Dad’s Grocery in Belgrade, and Gateway Exxon in Gallatin Gateway.





    PETRIFIED WOOD COLLECTION PERMITS

    Restrictions

  • 20 cubic inches (approx. 3” x 3” x 2”) of petrified wood per person, per calendar year
  • Collection only within the boundaries of the Gallatin Petrified Forest Special Management Zone
  • Expires December 31 of the year issued




  • CHRISTMAS TREE PERMITS

    $5 / tree

    Restrictions

  • limit two trees per household
  • Permits are good Forest-wide, except at campgrounds, trailheads, or in plantations
  • Sold during November & December

    Permits are for sale at each of the ranger district offices. They are also available for purchase at Owenhouse Ace Hardware in Bozeman, Lee & Dad’s Grocery in Belgrade, and Gateway Exxon Market in Gallatin Gateway.







    INTERAGENCY ANNUAL PASS

    • Covers entrance to National Park sites, and Fish and Wildlife Service Refuges that charge an entrance fee.
    • Covers use of Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and Bureau of Reclamation sites that charge a standard amenity fee.
    • Admits the pass holder and any accompanying passengers in a private vehicle. In those areas where a per person fee is charged, the pass admits the pass holder and up to 3 persons.

  • Valid for 12 months from month of purchase. Expires last day of the month punched.

    • Covers use of Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and Bureau of Reclamation sites that charge a standard amenity fee.
    • Admits the pass holder and any accompanying passengers in a private vehicle. In those areas where a per person fee is charged, the pass admits the pass holder and up to 3 persons.
    • The pass may provide a discount on some expanded amenity fees such as camping.
    • Valid for pass holder’s lifetime

  • The Interagency Senior Pass may only be purchased in person.
  • Available to U.S. Citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. that are 62 years of age or older.
  • Obtain in person at a ranger district office with proof of age and residency.

    • Covers entrance to National Park sites, and Fish and Wildlife Service Refuges that charge an entrance fee.
    • Covers use of Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and Bureau of Reclamation sites that charge a standard amenity fee.
    • Admits the pass holder and any accompanying passengers in a private vehicle. In those areas where a per person fee is charged, the pass admits the pass holder and up to 3 persons.
    • The pass may provide a discount on some expanded amenity fees such as camping.
    • Valid for pass holder’s lifetime

    Restrictions

  • The pass may be issued to U.S. Citizens or permanent residents of the U.S., regardless of age, that have been medically determined to have a permanent disability that severely limits one or more major life activities.
  • Obtain in person at a ranger district office with documentation of disability and residency.
  • You may call the ranger district before visiting to make sure you have the required documentation.
