Great Northern Fire Crew

The Application Timeline and Fire Season

We are currently talking with potential applicants and encouraging people to prepare their resume on AVUE.  Please continue to update your application as changes occur and begin a solid fitness regime.  It is never too early to start training for fire season. We hope to be making phone calls to check references and set up appointments to speak with candidates soon. We will speak to folks throughout a one to two week period before selections are made for the crew. During this selection time, we make every effort to contact everyone who has applied or had the initiative to contact us to let them know if they have been selected or not.

Fire Season

We hope to have our Detailed Squad Leaders joinging with our permanent staff by mid-May or so. Crewmembers will begin work after that time. We will commence work by performing the crew's Critical Training Regiment, which will take approximately 3 weeks to complete.

At the conclusion of Critical Training, providing that the overhead thinks that the crew is prepared for fire assignments, we will make the crew available for fire dispatches nationwide. At this point, the crew will take up residence in our operations base, located at the Condon Work Center on the Flathead National Forest, near Condon, Montana.

The schedule above is rough and is only meant to provide you with an estimate of the Great Northern's season ahead. We hope that the information provided will assist you in your decisionmaking process for accepting or declining positions. As of now, I expect only that you advise us if you accept a position elsewhere so that we can make room available and direct our efforts towards other applicants.

If you have further questions, please feel free to contact us. However, please do not be discouraged if you find us difficult to reach in the coming weeks. This is an extremely busy time of the year and we will make every available effort to return messages as time allows.
