GSA Safety Advisory: Fuel Bottle NSN 7240-01-351-2133 (July 2010)

The subject fuel bottle has been placed on indefinite hold by GSA Global Supply. Existing stocks do not comply with specifications for single piece construction. If you had purchased this item from GSA since February 1, 2009, you should remove it from service and discard it. The bottles to be discarded are red and the brand name marked on the bottle is "Brunton."   More from GSA .....  and a NFES Cache Memo.

No replacement fuel bottles are available at this time but updates will be posted to the GSA Wildland Fire Program web page as soon as information is available.

For safety sake, ensure all fuel bottles have the single-piece construction AND keep contents below the "Do Not Fill Above This Line" mark.

Cubitainer Safety Advisory (June 2010)

Cubitainers have been used for decades by wildland firefighters with no known health hazards and continue to be safe and efficient when used properly and in accordance to recommended guidelines.

Contaminated Dairy Products in MREs (August 14, 2009)

Do Not Consume the following products contained in MREs dated through June 30, 2009:
Dairyshake Powder, Chocolate, Fortified with Calcium and Vitamin D
Dairyshake Powder, Vanilla, Fortified with Calcium and Vitamin D
Dairyshake Powder, Strawberry, Fortified with Calcium and Vitamin D
Dairyshake Powder, Strawberry-Banana, Fortified with Calcium and Vitamin D

Only the dairy product is potentially contaminated. The rest of the menu is considered safe. MREs shipped from the Caches should have a label indicating whether the product is suspect or not. Some menus are being re-worked to remove the suspect product, and will have an “R” behind the lot number on the label. Some lots will be labeled as safe.

Our advice is to exercise caution at all times until we get an all-clear signal. Continued caution remains advised as of July 7, 2010.
