Zone Committee updates:
Communications - Rita - Communications plan discussed. Rita will distribute the plan to everyone.
Training - Bryan Connelley - Quite a bit of training conducted this spring. S-212 did not have enough to put on, maybe next year. Engine Academy still has some space available for engines. Finance class got canceled. Helicopter class will be decided once the ship is brought on. Region update. Dave's gone now, so Jim Kitchen will be representing NRCG along with Bryan.
Operations - Phil Perkins - Gave us an Operations committee update. Teams are in demand, nationally. Trying to identify candidates for Marana for training positions in advance to help prepare people for future. Crew typing was discussed, again. Engine signup was discussed and mobilization seems to be working. 310-1 is out and available on the internet. Sadler fire was discussed in detail. Talked about the recent deaths and reports.
Business Management - Diana Martin - Business as usual. Contracting and Rates being taken care of. 14 day assignment now is the maximum instead of 21 for out of state assignments.
Prevention - Quite a bit going on but no one from our committee present. Diana talked about Firewise and a national meeting scheduled for Kalispell in 2001.
Fire Use committee - Phil Perkins - Fire use teams in place.
NRCG meeting report - Rick - Central zone would like to see fire restrictions changed. Private contractor red card issue was discussed at length. Urban Interface standard is being developed. Red flag warnings changed because the weather zones have changed. Gallatin NF dispatch agreed to call when warnings came out. Some shortage in Forest Service resources. Our zone needs a Multi Agency Coordination group for prioritizing fires. We decided each agency would have a representative for our MAC.
Mobilization Board - Diana - Plan discussed and approved.
USFS -Rita - Head dispatch position and a seasonal position will be filled sometime in July - Helicopter will be on board July 14, Air Tanker will be on July 25, Jumpers on July 7.
USFS east side - Candi - Didn't get all the burns done due to the dry weather, helping with the engine academy, have 2 new engines that should be on board soon.
USFS west side - Fred - Same conditions - Sending 3 engines to academy, 4 type 6s available. End of the month for seasonal work force.
Gallatin County - Brett Waters - Support truck and new Type 6 engine added to county, Turner ranch has been doing prescribed burns - good relationship developed, Sedan area fire protection discussed. Repeaters are up and operational - AAMARS covering north - Ruby-Garnet covering around Bozeman - East repeater isn't up and operational yet, Fire Services will be dispatched on a fire dispatch channel.
Park County - Bob Fry - Discussed bordering protection areas in Forest Fire protection districts. Automatic aid agreement signed with Livingston City, Wilsall, and the Clyde Park departments.
Meagher County - Rick Seidlitz - Some burns have lost so burning has been restricted,
DNRC - Diana - Gearing up for fire season, getting contracts and inspections done, there is an effort to reevaluate the County co-op program.
YNP - Phil - Helicopter will be coming on board June 15, Type 6 engine up and running, Type 3 will be at east entrance, Prescribed fire use module is short but should be available by fire season, Basic FF class was too large last year and will be parred down this year. Same amount of overhead available. Drier than normal, especially in the north end.
BLM - Chris Hoff - Working on state fire management plan, active spring in prescribed fire and have been experiencing fall burning conditions, really dry, some challenges with the resource shortage.
Private - Dave Ronsen - Has 20 person radio cache available
