VOICE AND DATA COMMUNICATIONS TASK FORCE

INTRODUCTION

The fire season of 1994 identified several voice and data communications deficiencies within the Northern Rockies Geographic Area. Communications systems are consistently overloaded when the workload increases as a result of multiple ignition or extended attack situations. The problem is frequently compounded when the response to a situation involves multiple jurisdictions that are all attempting to effectively communicate through their own systems. Some very significant safety problems were identified during the 1994 season that involved communications.

The Northern Rockies Coordinating Group has appointed a Task Force to develop strategic recommendations to deal with voice and data communications for the next 5 years.

RESPONSIBILITY

The Task Force will report directly to the Northern Rockies Coordinating Group Board of Directors.

OBJECTIVES

The Task Force will develop a strategic plan to integrate voice and data communication systems between NRCG members agencies. Specific objectives will include:

TARGET COMPLETION DATE

Strategic framework for plans to be completed by October 1997. The Task Force should have a progress report for the NRCG Board of Directors at Spring 1997 meeting.
