Dakota Prairie Grasslands
Pursuant to Title 36 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 261.50 (a), the following acts are prohibited on all National Forest System lands within the boundaries of the Sheyenne National Grassland. These prohibitions are in addition to those enumerated in Subpart A, Part 261, Title 36 CFR and become effective at 12:01am Central Daylight Time, June 29, 2002 and will remain in effect until rescinded or revoked.
The following acts are prohibited until further notice:
1. Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire. (36 CFR 261.52(a)).
2. Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation
site or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren
or clear of all flammable materials (36 CFR 261.52(d)).
Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(e) the following persons are exempt
from this order:
1. Persons with a written permit that specifically authorizes the otherwise
prohibited act.
2. Persons using fire solely fueled by liquid petroleum or LPG fuels.
3. Persons conducting activities in those designated areas where the activity
is specifically authorized by written posted notice.
4. Any Federal, State, or local officer or member of an organized rescue or
firefighting force in the performance of official duty.
5. All land within a city boundary is exempted.

Violation of these prohibitions or the conditions of any permit issued there under is punishable by a fine of up to $5000 for and individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both. (16 USC 551 and 18 USC 3559 and 3571)
