Weekly Recreation Update – June 30, 2009
The Beartooth Ranger District provides weekly updates for your
use in making decisions on where to come and have fun on the Beartooth
Ranger District this summer.
The Beartooth Ranger District Travel Management Plan is now in
effect. Motorized travel is allowed only on designated routes. Designated
routes are the roads and trails shown on the Motor Vehicle Use Maps.
The recreation/atv crew is installing the route markers this summer
with our goal to have the entire districts’ motorized system
of roads and trails marked by the end of the summer. The maps are
available at Forest Service offices.
Fourth of July weekend is here! The District reminds everyone that
POSSESSION of fireworks on National Forest is illegal. Please make
your celebration of our nation’s independence one that doesn’t
include a visit from Law Enforcement.
The bears (Black and Grizzly) are out and about. The Custer N.F.
Food Storage Special Order requires all food and attractants be
stored properly when unattended. Attractants include all food and
beverages, items with food odors, toiletries and cosmetics, pet
food, garbage, coolers, cooking grease. Proper storage is in a hard
sided vehicle or an approved bear resistant container. Please keep
a clean camp; the safety of you and others depends upon you!
Interpretive geology talks are being offered free to the public
at the Vista Point overlook on Beartooth Pass, U.S. Highway 212
at 2 PM each Friday and Saturday.
