The Forest Service Decision Notice, Finding of No Significant
Impacts, and Final Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Pryor
Mountain Wild Horse Range (PMWHR) Herd Management Area Plan (HMAP)
are available. The Forest Service decision is to implement improvement
projects that include fence maintenance, minor-realignment, and
a short extension along the north boundary of the PMWHR, along
with improving a water source. The overall purpose of the interagency
project is to re-establish the Appropriate Management Level, develop
habitat prescriptions, identify opportunities for improvement,
and emphasize stabilization of ecological conditions within existing
wild horse Herd Management Area and Territory.
The EA addressed proposed actions for updating the Herd Management
Area Plan for three agencies (Forest Service, BLM, and National
Park Service). The BLM is the lead agency. Questions related to
the project, the BLM decision and BLM appeal procedures should

Custer Forest Supervisor Mary C. Erickson, selected the Forest
Service portion of Alternative B, for maintenance, minor realignment,
and extension of the PMWHR north boundary fence and associated
cattleguard, and improvement of one water source.
