Any hydrologic line marked on USGS 1:24000 quads will be found on this Coverage. In addition, what was considered ground truthed streams have been added from orthophotos and USGS 7.5-minute quadrangle topographic base quad maps. As these additions to the CFF streams are ground truthed, they are coded in the ground_truth item as 'gt'. Streams that are added in addition to the original ground truth streams are coded 'gta'. Also, flowlines have been added through the center of double line streams, marshes,lakes, and ponds. Connector arcs were added to extend single line streams to the flowline. Route systems were then added as indicated below. All edits and additions were done to meet National Map Accuracy Standards. The layer was processed through these steps: Process Raw CFF files Edgematching Error Correction Additions Flowlines Attributing Routeing Processing Raw CFF Files: Raw CFF Files were imported into ARC/Info Coverages using a CFF2ARC aml. This AML created line and point coverages with CFF code items. Edgematching: Quads were edgematched and joined into one coverage projected in UTM coordinates, zone 11, NAD27. TICS were added from CFF files. Error Correction: The original cff streams were compared to base quads and checked for missing lines. Additions: Overlays of ground truthing streams were used as a guide to digitize additional streams using orthophotos and base quads. Note: The original coverage contained only CFF streams. Additions were made using mapping on USGS 7.5-minute quadrangle topographic maps provided by districts from the ground truth effort of 1/91. In 8/97 the forest hydrologist and fish biologist concluded the stream layer on districts 3 and 6 included more streams than original ground truth criteria designated. They thinned the streams and that thinning is was incorporated into the cover 10/97. Only additions were removed, the CFF lines are intact. The original 'pre-thin' dense stream layer is available for those two districts from the GIS team in the Clearwater SO. The layer was once again reviewed 10/00 - 01/01 by the hydrologist and further additions and subtraction edits are being incorporated using USGS PBS quads topography in order to meet National Map Standards. The oroginal CFF lines have not been removed, but have had minor edits. Valid CFF Codes are from the "Digitizing Guide for Cartographic Feature Files". For the CWF_STRM Coverage, 4 valid codes were used. SOURCE Source of the data. This column is used to identify cff arcs for use in plotquad. TYPE_OF_CORR Used to identify lines to be added or altered. (Lines to be removed are stored in cover called CWFSTRM_DEL) SOURCE_CODE Identifies the source. SOURCE_CODE_MEMO Short description for purpose of change. Ground_truth Used to identify ground truth streams verified during project analysis These items are used to identify the feature: Name Geographic Name of feature Order Strahler stream order. Method of stream ordering proposed by Strahler in 1952. Stream order only increases when streams of the same order intersect. The intersection of a first and second remains a second rather than creating a third. An aml was used to calculate the order after the arcs were flipped downstream. After the calculation the arcs were all changed back to an upstream direction. Stream_class Stream_class of 1 is fish bearing. Originally based on the item ORDER. If order ge 3 then stream_class = 1. If order le 2 then stream_class = 2 (non-fish bearing). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- USE Arcs *** --------- Use the arc feature class to show all linear hydologic features. The arcs have attributed with stream order and class. Routes *** --------- LLID All hydrologic features which require attributing other than order and class are built into the route LLID system. All perrenial streams have been routed and attributed with the Lat/Long of the mouth of the stream in coordination with IDFG 1:100000 stream llids. All information related to a hydrologic feature will be based on the route measures of the feature and stored in event tables. RIVER Major drainages. STRNAME All hydrologic features representd on secondary base series maps. Built using the USGS GNIS. STRMILE Same as STRNAME, measured in miles.
