Recreation Enhancement Accomplishment Summary 2001


Campgrounds (2001 Collections: $99,800)

  • White Pine Campground-The majority of this project was completed in FY 2000. However, the balance of $6000 (which was used in FY 2000 to match State of Idaho RV grant) was expended to finish the facility upgrade, including table and fire ring replacement and finalizing landscaping.
  • All Forest Fee Campgrounds--Used fees to pay for campground hosts; approx 20% increase in campground host support; this resulted in cleaner restrooms and improved maintenance on the North Fork District
  • All Forest Fee Campgrounds--Used fees to pay for personnel and equipment to assess and remove hazard trees
  • Used fees to pay salaries for employees providing visitor contact and host support, toilet cleaning, trash hauling, mowing, and brushing

    Group shelter and playgropund at Wilderness Gateway

Outfitters and Guides (2001 Collections: $59,300)

  • A river ranger was provided on the Lochsa River for the whitewater season.

  • 375 miles of trail repair; this is 174 miles more than last years accomplishment; 10 miles of this was Level 3 brushing and maintenance

  • Approximately $6000 used to contribute to a partnership to stabilize Gold Meadows Cabin (see attached article and photos.

  • Continued assistance with the water and sewer systems and facility improvements associated with the Wilderness Gateway outfitter camp


Lolo Pass (2001 Collections: $13,800)

  • Due to snow conditions income was approximately 60% of what was expected therefore accomplishments were less than previous year

  • Approximately $12,000 contributed to grooming 8 miles of cross country ski trails; groomed up to 3 times per week

  • Approximately $3,000 contributed to State of Montana (MDOT) for parking lot plowing
    $2,500 contributed to the local snowmobile club for snowmobile trail grooming

  • For 75% of the days the visitor center was open, a full time compliance/information officer was on-site

  • Contributions to weekly avalanche testing and reporting
