Forest Plan Revision
The Clearwater and Nez Perce National Forests have initiated an effort to revise their Land and Resource Management Plans, or Forest Plans. If you use these special lands for work or play, or if you value them for other purposes, you have an interest in this revision process. Information is available on the revision website.
Forest NEPA Projects
Schedule of Proposed Actions
Find information on current and proposed projects for watershed restoration, habitat improvement, recreation sites, timber sales, roads, and more. Four times a year, the Forest publishes a Schedule of Proposed Actions (SOPA). To view our Schedule of Proposed Actions, please visit the Forest Service SOPA page for the Clearwater National Forest.
The Schedule of Proposed Actions or SOPA (formerly called the NEPA Quarterly Report) is designed to provide information on current and upcoming projects to people interested in management of the Clearwater National Forest.
Small Projects Scoping Notices
Scoping is a process of soliciting comments on a proposed action to help the Forest Service identify issues that should be considered in the analysis. Multiple small projects are often included in a single notice and request for comment.
Appeals and Litigation
Forest Service managers make many resource-management decisions, which may be subject to appeal (request to a higher authority for review of a decision). The FS National appeals website has information on appeal responses and objection responses for the Clearwater NF issued after October 1, 2006. The Northern Region website has prior appeal and objection responses.
NEPA Project Information
We have implemented a new system that allows for automatic publishing of NEPA documents to the world wide web. In the project listing below, you can sort the documents by Project Status, Management Unit, or Project purpose by selecting the approriate circle next to your choice.
To view the published NEPA documents for a project, click on the project name. Some of the projects have additional information that can be reached by clicking on the "See our project page..." link.

Recreation Facility Analysis
The Clearwater National Forest has always placed a high priority on providing a variety of quality recreation opportunities for our visitors to enjoy. Visitors to our forest enjoy many sites that range from modern campgrounds with many amenities to primitive self-discovery areas. Regardless of your interest, visiting a site that is clean, safe and accessible is essential. The Forest has begun implementing the Recreation Facility Analysis (RFA) to help the forest maintain sustainable facilities that also meet the needs of our visitors.
Roads Analysis Report
The roads analysis report will be used to support the revision of the Clearwater National Forest Plan and future watershed or project analyses. It will identify prioritized opportunities which address watershed health and road management. It will assist in developing forest-wide standards and guidelines and geographic area direction in the revised Forest plan and future projects.
Elk Recovery And Fire Use
The Clearwater NF is working to improve elk habitat along with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Idaho Department of Fish & Game, and other partners. Wildland Fire Use (WFU) and prescribed fire are the primary tools to create landscape level vegetation changes beneficial to elk and other species. More...
Outfitted Fishing Needs Assessment (06/2005)
Outfitters operating under Special Use Permits on the Clearwater NF have expressed interest in diversifying their operations to include or expand levels of fishing. The Clearwater NF has completed a Needs Assessment to identify where there is a need for outfitted fishing on the Forest.
