Research Interests/Duties
Jim is a Forest Meteorologist working in the area of urban forestry. His research focuses on the effects of urban trees on the environment, especially microclimate and the resulting impacts on cooling and heating energy use, air quality, carbon sequestration, and urban runoff. He also directs the Center's environmental research of the benefits associated with the structure and function of urban forests. Jim received a Bachelor's of Science in Physics from Pacific Lutheran University and a Ph.D. in Forest Meteorology from the University of Washington. Previous to joining the Center in 1992 he served on the faculty of the University of Arizona.
