Research Interests/Duties
I am interested in identifying those demographic and genetic processes
that significantly influence the genetic structure of a species in order
to inform management decisions and develop conservation strategies. Rather
than focus on a single molecular technique, I aim to use whichever marker
system is most appropriate for the question being addressed. This battery
of markers includes isozymes, microsatellites, RAPDs, AFLPs, and nuclear
and organellar sequences.
As a Biologist at the National Forest Genetics Laboratory (NFGEL), I
address management and conservation questions for a variety of plant species.
Descriptions of common questions and examples of projects can be found
in recent lab publications.
All of the projects have a direct application to management or conservation
activities currently underway by the USDA Forest Service or one of its
collaborators. As the lab manager, I facilitate the day-to-day activities
of the laboratory, perform a variety of administrative tasks, analyze
data, and write project reports and manuscripts for publication.
