Research Interests/Duties
Research goal is to describe and characterize - using molecular genetic and traditional mycological and plant research approaches - the roles and associations of fungal pathogens within forested ecosystems. Areas of research include the evolution, systematics, ecology, and biogeography of the pine stem rust fungi (Cronartium and Peridermium spp.); host disease resistance in white pine blister rust, pinyon blister rust, and western gall rust; and pitch canker disease of Monterey pine. Ultimate research aim is to provide forest biologists with results that integrate the interactions of genes, organisms, and environments within these pathosystems, and thus contribute knowledge essential to long-term forest productivity and ecosystem sustainability.
