Transportation

Photo of Davis station showing bike and train transportation

Many opportunities exist in the transportation sector to directly reduce fuel use and lower greenhouse-gas emissions. One set of options includes reducing travel through teleconferencing and work-at-home options, addressed elsewhere. Here we outline options for employees to receive deductions for their routine commutes when public transportation is used, as well as options for obtaining hybrid fleet vehicles and rental cars. Links to public transportation at national and state scales are given for the locations of the primary PSW field stations.

Federal Program for Commute Rebates

National website: Commuter Transit Subsidy Benefit Program removed link to internal website
The Forest Service has a program by which you can get reimbursed up to $105/month for commute costs when you use public transportation. The reimbursement is in the form of a voucher that you can use to purchase multi-ride bus or train passes. Although the national website for the Commute Rebate Program mostly describes options in the Washington D.C. area, this is where you will find answers to FAQ and the forms needed to join the program. The contact for this program at PSW is Imogene Holmes, iholmes@fs.fed.us, who can help you navigate this process.
