The CIRMOUNT Mountain Climate Network ("MONET") Work Group supports implementation of a network of long-term high-elevation climate monitoring stations in western North America. MONET works to develop a framework for coordinating the scattered existing and nascent efforts toward this goal. MONET provides a central forum for developing strategic station locations, minimum criteria for station instrumentation and functioning, practical details about equipment, installation and maintenance. MONET serves as a hub for analysis, interpretation, and communication about high-elevation climate in western mountains.

MONET plans to initiate a high-elevation version of the Climate Reference Network, referred to as the Mountain Climate Reference Network (MCRN).

Because of the critical importance of high-elevation climate data for many mountain studies, MONET actively coordinates with other CIRMOUNT Work Groups.
