HYDROLOGIC OBSERVATORIES PROJECTS
Work Group Action - 6 Month Horizon
During 2005, the HOG Work Group will develop a brief
"white paper" stating the case for initiating one or more
western-mountain HOs as soon as possible. Because more than half
of the WG participants may be involved in development of highly
competitive HO proposals to NSF, this task is not simple and-even
afterwards-- there may be concerns as to the paper's objectivity
and credibility. The group thus proposes to develop a draft for
the CIRMOUNT Steering Committee to review. A final version will
be sent to CUAHSI and NSF under CIRMOUNT's initiative. Contact Roger
Bales for further information (rbales@ucmerced.edu)
Work Group Action - 2 year Horizon
We anticipate drawing members from the HOG and other
interested scientists together to begin the longer range discussions
as the CUAHSI science planning proceeds. One step in this development
will be to develop and propose a hydrologic classification system
for the West, a system that can be used to determine the adequacy
of current and future observation networks and to prioritize proposed
network designs.
