The MTNCLIM 2008 Conference, as well as the pre-conference work group sessions and post-conference workshop will be held in Silverton, Colorado. Silverton is a small town located at 9,318 ft. (2840 m) in the heart of the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado. Conference activities will take place at the Kendall Mountain Recreation Center, Silverton Town Hall, San Juan Historic Museum, and the Mountain Studies Institute; all within short walking distance of each other. Silverton and the surrounding region offer many activities that conference participants may want to explore before or after the conference. Visit Silverton's website for more information http://www.silvertoncolorado.com/

Silverton is a 1.5-hour drive from the Durango/La Plata Regional Airport (south; recommended airport) and the Montrose Regional Airport (north). Additional airports in the vicinity include Cortez Municipal, Telluride Regional, and Farmington/Four Corners. Albuquerque and Denver International Airports are 5 hr and 6.5 hr drives from Silverton, respectively.

Silverton is located just off Hwy 550, 50 miles north of Durango. Rental cars are available at the Durango and some local airports; reservations are recommended. The historic Durango-Silverton Narrow Guage Railway offers a scenic alternative to driving. A Greyhound bus also travels through Silverton.

A shuttle from the Durango/La Plata Airport will be offered by local hosts. This shuttle will accommodate pick ups Monday, June 9 and drop offs Thursday, June 12. It will pick up and drop off MTNCLIM participants in groups so some people may have a wait time. Cost for this special shuttle service will be $20 each way. Spaces must be reserved and paid ahead of time by contacting Ali Morse (mtnclim2008@yahoo.com). If you are in need of other shuttle arrangements, call Durango Transportation at 970-385-5231 or 970-259-4818. They charge $147/person each way or four (4) people can go together for $54/person.

Note from Ali 5/11/2008 -- The deadline for shuttle reservations has been extended to May 15, 2008. Note that due to the low numbers signing up for the discount shuttle, we cannot offer the shuttle at all times. Please plan on arriving at the airport on Monday 6/9 between 10 am-4:30pm and departing from the airport on Thursday 6/12 between 1 pm-8 pm. If you need a shuttle at other times, feel free to inquire but we may not be able to accommodate you.

There is no single conference lodging venue. Conference participants have a choice of accommodations in Silverton, including bed & breakfasts, hotels, motels, the Mountain Studies Institute field station, campgrounds, and weekly rentals with a range of costs. You must reserve and pay for these individually and separate from the Conference Registration. We have reserved rooms at several places for MTNCLIM attendees; some have offered us discounts. These rooms must be booked before May 10, 2008. We suggest, however, making reservations much earlier to ensure your choice of lodging. Contact Ali Morse (mtnclim2008@yahoo.com) or 970-903-1701 if you have trouble with lodging arrangements. Silverton Lodging Options and Reserved/Discounted Options
