Education
I received my B.S. degree in Forestry with a Wood Science and Technology emphasis from University of Maine at Orono.  My M.S. degree in Forest Products was obtained at Oregon State University.

Work Experience
Following graduate school, I worked for the Maine Department of Conservation in the Forest Products Marketing and Assessment Program.  During the mid-1980's, I had my own consulting business working with biomass energy companies on resource analyses.  In 1987, I returned to Oregon to work for the Forest Products Department at Oregon State University, focusing on wood quality research.  In 1990, I joined the Timber Quality Research Team (now the Ecologically Sustainable Production of Forest Resources Team) as a scientist at the Pacific Northwest Research Station in Portland, OR.

Current Research
My work has included studies on deterioration of dead and dying trees, utilization of hardwoods, and opportunities (with a value-added emphasis) within ecosystem management for using small diameter trees.
