Ralph Alig is a research forester with the USDA Forest Service, Pacific Northwest (PNW) Research Station, based in Corvallis, OR. He has been with the agency since 1978, working on land use change projects, analyses of retention and condition of forest conservation tree plantings on private land, effects of global climate change on forests, industries, and society, and adaptation and mitigation activities in response to climate change and analysis of area changes for major forest types. He is one of the developers of the Forest and Agricultural Sector Optimization Model—Greenhouse Gases (FASOM-GHG), used by the Environmental Protection Agency and others to analyze possible national legislation pertaining to climate change. He also has coordinated regional and national level projections of area changes for the major land uses for the periodic Resources Planning Act (RPA) assessments by the USDA Forest Service.
