Forest Inventory and Analysis Topics

Resource Monitoring and Assessment includes the Pacific Northwest unit of Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA), a national program that collects data on all public and private forests. Forest Inventory and Analysis collects, analyzes, reports, and distributes forest inventory data from field plots spaced at 3.4 mile intervals across the entire Nation. Resource Monitoring and Assessment expands beyond the traditional scope of FIA to develop techniques and applications of inventory and monitoring information to address current issues in land management, both regionally and nationally. Pacific Northwest FIA can tell us:

  • How much forested land is there in a region? Where is it?
  • Who owns the forests?
  • What plant species are present?
  • What is the current condition of Pacific Northwest forests?
  • How has it changed?
