Welcome to Tech Tips!

Many of our studies involve using scientific instruments to take environmental measurements. These can range from simple hand-held instruments used to measure temperature or light to complex data loggers with multiple sensors (a weather station would be one example) that we download with a cell phone. Over the years we've beat our head against the wall on various questions before we were able to come up with the right solution.

Listed below are topics where we have written up our solutions to share with you. These are informal tips that have not been reviewed by others outside our group. Also, we describe the specific equipment we have used by the use of trade or firm names; there names are for information only and our mention does not imply endorsement by the U.S. Department of Agriculture of any product or service. Readers are encouraged to research alternatives to the equipment we used. For your convenience we provide links to web sites for the companies that sell the equipment mentioned in the tips and other useful sources of technical information.

We hope that you find the Tech Tips to be useful. Feedback is appreciated but unfortunately we can't solve your individual instrumentation problems. Most companies have technical service representatives that can be very helpful.
