Timber/Fish/Wildlife Team

The Timber/Fish/Wildlife Team is a division of the PNW Research Station's Aquatic Land Interactions Program. The mission of the Aquatic and Land Interactions Research Program (ALI) is to "understand how natural processes and human activities affect aquatic systems and their links with the land".  Five program goals have been identified:

• Identify ecological interactions between upland and aquatic systems
• Determine the cumulative effects of land use on aquatic ecosystems
• Provide knowledge to restore and enhance productivity of aquatic ecosystems
• Increase public understanding of aquatic ecosystems and their importance
• Improve the knowledge base supporting other natural science programs

These research program goals are addressed in three core areas of study:

• Linkages between hill slopes, riparian areas, and streams
• Structure and function of wetlands, riparian habitats, and aquatic ecosystems
• Habitat relationships and restoration ecology of regionally important fishes, especially Pacific salmon.
• Wildlife habitat relationships of vertebrates in riparian communities
