PARTNERS AND COOPERATORS

Partners and Cooperators in the project include:

  • PNW Research Station—Corvallis, La Grande, and Seattle Labs
  • USFS Pacific Northwest Region—Fire Management and Contracting
  • National Audubon Society
  • National Marine Fisheries Service
  • National Wildlife Federation
  • Blue Mountains Natural Resources Institute
  • Masonite, Inc.
  • Oregon State University

A key to the success of this project has been the collaborative nature of this effort, including management, research, industry, and the public. One factor for the success of this project has been the Blue Mountains Natural Resources Institute, which is a Forest Service unit, funded by both research and management units. The Institute facilitated the use of adaptive management in the Limber Jim and other projects by coordinating among the several scientists and managers involved.

The institute's Research Coordinator, Dr. Jim McIver, coordinated efforts of researchers from the Pacific Northwest Research Station, (Corvallis, La Grande, and Seattle), Oregon State University's Department of Forest Engineering, and the University of California at Davis' Department of Forest Engineering.

Management coordination was with staffers and management of the La Grande Ranger District of the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest.

Industry coordination involved the Masonite Corporation, represented by Andy Munsey.

Technology transfer coordination included work by the Institute's Outreach Coordinator, Lynn Starr, and included tours, a video, technical articles, journal articles, government reports, and our own Web site.
