Frostfire Location and Maps

General Description

The FROSTFIRE burn and associated research took place approximately 25 miles northeast of Fairbanks, Alaska, This is land owned by the State of Alaska Division of Forestry and managed as the Caribou-Poker Creeks Research Watershed.

Vegetation Type

Boreal forest. South slopes are dominated by quaking aspen and paper birch. North-facing slopes are dominated by black spruce. A vegetation map of the LTER site, with approximate outline of the burn area, is shown here. You may find a better one (larger and more readable ) at:

A topographic map taken from the USGS 15-minute quadrangles Livengood A-1 and Livengood A-2 can be viewed. It provides a general outline of the burn area.
