| FCCS SCIENTIFIC DOCUMENTATION
PUBLISHED
Seven major papers documenting development of the Fuel Characteristic
Classification System were published in the December 2007 issue
of the Canadian Journal of Forest Research. In this Special Forum
section, the scientific basis for this system are detailed in an
overview, papers on fuelbed development, fire potentials, and mapping
of fuelbeds. A reformulation of the Rothermel fire spread model
is also offered in one paper.
As of this email, three of the 7 papers are available for free
from the U.S. Forest Service website; the rest should be available
within days. Free abstracts can also be found on the journal website,
and copies of the full papers are available for a fee. Hard copies
can be ordered from the address at the bottom of this newsletter.
