Connecting
FVS and FCCS in the Cedar River Watershed
This case study follows up on an earlier projected funded by the
City of Seattle to analyze
fuel decomposition and fire hazard on the Cedar River Watershed.
Data collected during that study was used to create forest types
in the Forest Vegetation
Simulator (FVS) and its Fire and Fuels Extension (FFE).
The results of this work can be found in chapter 2 of Johnson's
dissertation.

Additional work involved taking the data from the FVS-FFE forest
types and developing a method to create fuelbeds in the Fuel Characteristic
Classification System. The value added by this method includef the
ability to calculate fuel characteristics and fire potentials in
FCCS.
