The
U.S.D.A. Forest Service, PNW Research Station is pleased to announce a one-day
workshop entitled, “Managing for Wildlife Habitat in Westside Production
Forests,” October 18, 2006, at the Hilton Hotel in Vancouver, WA (6th
and Columbia). Other sponsors include Washington Department of Natural Resources,
Southwest Washington Chapter of Society of American Foresters, and Western
Forestry and Conservation Association. The workshop will explore management
strategies and treatments for fostering wildlife habitat in managed forests
west of the crest of the Cascade Mountains. The meeting’s “hands-on” format
will educate participants on influences of silviculture, economics, and public
policy on management of stand structure to promote habitat of key wildlife
guilds. Featured speakers include: Keith Aubry (U.S.D.A. Forest Service, PNW
Research Station), Hamish Kimmins (University of British Columbia), and Bob
Dick (American Forest Resource Council). The PNW Research Station’s Focused
Science Delivery Program will publish a summary publication from the workshop
