Our Mission

The Resource Monitoring and Assessment Program improves forests and rangelands by developing and applying inventory and monitoring methodology to maintain current comprehensive inventories. We also conduct multiscale assessments of the status, trends, and prospective futures of the region’s ecosystems. Program Charter

About Us

We have research programs and conduct inventories in Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, and the Pacific Islands. This program covers the existing Forest Inventory and Analysis program responsibilities as well as expand beyond it to include the development of techniques and the application of inventory and monitoring information to current and emerging issues.

Research Areas

Our work addresses three key research questions:

• How can we provide decisionmakers with essential information on the status, extent, and characteristics of forests and rangelands in the Pacific region and their change over time?
• How can we increase the efficiency and add value to inventory and monitoring efforts through the development of new tools, techniques, and methodology?
• How can inventory and monitoring data be used to understand the effects of human use, climate, and natural disturbances on forest and rangeland condition?
